In 2012 members of the local community and Southbank Residents Association formed Two Schools Now in a campaign to establish two new schools. Port Melbourne Primary School was seriously overcrowded and children from Southbank zoned out of other schools so additional schooling was urgently required for Southbank.
 

The release of plans by the Minister for Education for the revolutionary vertical school to be located at Ferrars Street, South Melbourne, was welcomed by the community.
